Absences

  • If your child has an appointment or needs to check out early – please call ahead. The office will write your child a pass and they will meet you up at the office. This eliminates interruptions during class time.
  • If your child is ill or is taking a personal day – please call in the morning.
  • If your child feels sick at school – they MUST see the nurse before calling home. Students are not supposed to use their phones to call home before seeing the nurse.

Arriving at and Leaving School

  • Students who need to enter the building early in the morning will need a pass from their teacher.
  • Please be sure to remind your child to use the cross walk. It is dangerous when there is a lot of traffic and students are darting in the line of traffic.
  • If your student plans to drive to school, you will need to fill out a form and provide a copy of insurance and driver’s license. Your student will also meet with the Liaison Officer to discuss the rules.
  • Please try to arrange after school pick up before school starts for the day. Often times at the end of the day the office is extremely busy and we would hate for your child to miss their
  • message.
  • Students should come dressed prepared for various weather conditions.  Students are allowed to enter the building at 7:30am on red flag days.  Red flag days occur when the temperature is zero or below.

Communication

  • If you would like to sign up for text messages, please text Join to the number 56360.

Conferences.  Two Parent-Teacher Conference evenings take place in both the Fall and Spring semesters.  You will receive an email in advance as those dates approach.  You are welcome to watch your child’s gradebook in Skyward throughout the year.  Encourage your child to reach out to his or her teacher if they have questions.  You are also welcome to call or email teachers.  The staff email addresses are included under the Our School link.

Homework & Missing Work

Skyward provides information about grades and missing work.  Google Classroom may provide additional details. There is a link in the Our School menu on the SWMS Home Page to learn more about these two resources.

Student are encouraged to contact teachers when absent to take care of missing work.  If that is not possible, parents are welcome to reach out and make arrangements with the teacher if work needs to be picked up from the school.  Student work available for pick-up will be held in the office.

Sports

  • If your child is going to miss a sports practice – it is your job to notify the coach. Parents may also call and leave a voicemail with the coach or email them.
  • Students participating in sports will need to have a medical consent form signed by the student and the parent, a physical (good for three years).
  • The activity fee is $25 per sport with a maximum of $60 for the year. Students will also need to purchase shorts for $12.
  • If your child is in a sport please find practice times and sports schedules using the Our School link at the top of the SWMS Web Page.
